Teaching: What Is Prayer and How Do I Pray?
📖 What Is Prayer?
Prayer is simply talking with God. It is a two-way conversation — we speak, and we also learn to listen. God is not far away or too busy. He wants to hear from you.
“Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
— Jeremiah 33:3
You don’t need fancy words. You don’t need to pray in a church building. You don’t even need to pray out loud. What God wants most is your heart.
🙏 Why Do We Pray?
To build a relationship with God (Luke 11:2-4)
To receive guidance and peace (Philippians 4:6-7)
To confess our sins and receive forgiveness (1 John 1:9)
To ask for help — for yourself and others (Matthew 7:7-8)
To worship and give thanks (Psalm 100:4)
✨ How Should I Pray?
Jesus gave us a beautiful example in Matthew 6:9-13 — The Lord’s Prayer. But you can pray in your own words. Here’s a simple pattern:
🟢 P.R.A.Y.
P – Praise: Start by thanking God for who He is.
R – Repent: Confess anything you’ve done wrong.
A – Ask: Bring your needs to God.
Y – Yield: Submit your plans and desires to Him.
You can use this pattern when you’re alone, walking, cooking, or lying in bed — anywhere and anytime.
💡 Simple Sample Prayer
"Father God, thank You for loving me. I praise You because You are kind and powerful. Please forgive me for my sins. Help me to live for You today. I ask for strength, peace, and wisdom. I trust You with my life. In Jesus' name, Amen."
🌍 If You’re in a Closed Country
Even if you can’t pray aloud, pray silently — God hears your thoughts. Jesus often prayed alone, in quiet places (Mark 1:35).
Write your prayers in a notebook.
Whisper short prayers under your breath.
Use a prayer app or Bible app with privacy features.
Pray Scripture — turn verses into prayers.
